I think the two party system is not simply broken, I believe it to be rendered moot. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars to elect a president while nearly ignoring the election of senators and congressmen. I should think the election of those who make law would be as, if not more, important that the single person who heads the executive branch. Does the President have great power? Yes and that power can be, and often is, regulated by congress and the American people. Our current electoral process is out of touch with modernity. We have the capabilities for a one voter - one vote for everything from local zoning laws to the election of our President. Even when we do see single candidate emerge from the primary process, it is the candidate with largest war chest. Today you have to have the money of Romney or a Bush to run. There are models for election out there, why not try one and see? After all its only for four years.
